The Counter-Strike scene moves to Chicago for the next few days as we head to IEM Chicago 2018. The tournament will see several teams from all across the globe participating in the event. There are a total of 16 teams at the event competing for a prize pool of $250,000. The event takes place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The event started on the 6th of November and will continue till the 11th. While Astralis is considered to be the strongest team in the tournament, we have not seen them perform at the same level of dominance since the FaceIT London Major 2018.

The IEM Chicago tournament will be crucial for the teams aiming to prove themselves on the big stage. While the top teams are obviously competing for the title, many smaller teams are also aiming to prove themselves amongst the bigger fish.

The tournament will feature a double elimination format where every team will get a chance to prove themselves. The format allows teams to make mistakes and yet have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs. So far in the tournament, teams like North, MiBr and Natus Vincere have been eliminated from the tournament.

Faze Clan

Faze Clan Roster:

  • Karrigan
  • Niko
  • Rain
  • Guardian
  • Olofmeister

The Faze Clan roster is the first truly international team when it comes to Counter-Strike. The team’s performance in the recent months has seen a significant uptick after multiple members of this team have started performing well. With Guardian’s performance showing a huge boost, we can expect Faze Clan to become a strong dominant force once more. For most of 2018, they did not have their full lineup, especially as Olofmeister was away from the game for a significant period of time. When he did come back, he was in excellent form. Unfortunately for the team, the rest of the team did not look so strong at the Major.

GuardiaN has performed when FaZe needed it most (StarLadder)

Guardian’s aggressive AWP playstyle is exactly what Faze Clan needs. It provides the rest of the team with space and the necessary advantage to further secure the round. Guardian is one of the best AWPers in the game. He has extremely fast reaction times and that is what makes him such a force. He can get kills even in situations where it might seem impossible to do so. This is because of his years of experience and predicting the movements of the opponent professional players. For now, Guardian is one of the key members of Faze Clan and their results are directly linked to Guardian’s.

The lurker on this roster, Olofmeister has put up great performances since his return. But for the most part, he has been one of the best performing players on this team. There was a time during the Major when people were comparing his 2018 performance with that of his 2015 performance, which is a compliment in itself. Olfomeister has excelled his role as the lurker. Not only does he evoke fear in the minds of his opponents, but he is also one of the top fraggers on the team. If left unchecked he can single-handedly eliminate the opposing team due to his positioning. Understanding the timing of his movement and the decision-making process behind all of this is crucial to learning how to counter Olofmiester. IT is a task that not many teams and players have been able to do till now.

The biggest change to the team comes in the form of their In-Game Leadership. With Karrigan mourning the lack of time for himself on this team, we might see a few changes on this roster. However, we also have to keep in mind that Faze Clan won EPICENTEr 2018. This does buy them time as well as the confidence to take on other teams. Their match is against Team Liquid, another team which plays heavily based on their fragging capability. For Faze Clan this is a suitable matchup as long as they can get the proper map vetoes in.

We expect Faze Clan to have a splendid performance, judging from their Group Stage performance. If they can have multiple members being as lethal as they were, then this team has the potential to easily be the best team in the world.

Team Liquid

  • Twistzz
  • Nitro
  • Elige
  • NAF
  • TACO

While Faze Clan has seen a significant improvement in their performance, Team Liquid is quite the opposite. They seem to be quite underwhelming, so far in the tournament. With Elige failing to perform as per usual, Team Liquid lost to Fnatic in the Group stage. Regardless no one can discount this team due to the sheer strength of the team’s individual fragging capability.

Led by Nitro, the team has developed its unique style of play. They are a team that relies overly on their communication and their ability to play off each other. This is truly great as that can be the sole reason for Faze Clan’s defeat. Nitro is not the flashy player on the team, but he has taken a passive role on the roster. He wants to allow the youngsters on the team to perform to their full extent. His ability to customise the gameplay according to the playstyle of certain players is important to instil confidence in the youngsters.

Over the past months, we have seen Team Liquid make changes and yet be extremely comfortable playing around each other. The team’s performance through the Major, however, has suffered, mainly due to Elige not performing as per usual. Elige is one of those players who consistently tops the scoreboard, no matter which team Liquid plays. His insane fragging capability is equivalent to the Get_rights of 2012. He can turn 180 degrees and still headshot you, leaving you awestruck. However, as with any star player, it is always difficult to maintain their peak form. For now, Elige does not look as good and we might just be witness to the start of a slump for the player.

Joining Elige near the top of the scoreboard is almost always Twistzz. The player is widely regarded as the best player in North America. His positioning and aim with the rifle are what makes him truly inspirational and a dominant force against the top teams. For now, Team  Team is the slight underdog in this matchup. However, considering how volatile Faze Clan can be, despite being one of the top teams in the world, this might be Team Liquid’s chance to get into the Grand finals at IEM Chicago.

Faze Clan is definitely looking menacing so far in this tournament. They have a fantastic lineup with some of the biggest names in the world. But it is indeed rare to see multiple players performing at their peak on this roster. The Faze Clan roster has remained one of the strongest lineups on paper, but they have failed miserably so far. The Faze Clan team has not been able to dominate the professional scene as one would expect. However, in the recent few tournaments, we are witnessing multiple players, especially Guardian and Olofmeister put forth strong performances. These two form the strongest members on the team and if they both perform well, there is little that can stop the Faze Clan in sheer firepower. This is exactly why we saw Faze Clan play a very casual run and gun approach to the game when it comes to their match against Astralis.

Team Liquid\s performance, on the other hand, has been somewhat lacklustre. They have had a much easier route to the playoffs, however, we have seen that this team can perform well against the top echelons of Counter-Strike. It depends heavily on Elige and his individual score in this match-up.

We recommend a bet on Faze Clan for this match.
