The Counter-Strike scene moves to Chicago for the next few days as we head to IEM Chicago 2018. The tournament will see several teams from all across the globe participating in the event. There are a total of 16 teams at the event competing for a prize pool of $250,000. The event takes place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The event started on the 6th of November and will continue till the 11th. While Astralis is considered to be the strongest team in the tournament, we have not seen them perform at the same level of dominance since the FaceIT London Major 2018.

The IEM Chicago tournament will be crucial for the teams aiming to prove themselves on the big stage. While the top teams are obviously competing for the title, many smaller teams are also aiming to prove themselves amongst the bigger fish.

The tournament will feature a double elimination format where every team will get a chance to prove themselves. The format allows teams to make mistakes and yet have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs. So far in the tournament, teams like North, MiBr and Natus Vincere have been eliminated from the tournament.

Astralis vs Faze Clan

Astralis

Astralis Roster:

  • Dupreeh
  • Device
  • Glaive
  • Magisk
  • Xyp9x

The Astralis roster is one of the strongest teams in the game. Their dominance over their opponents is not only in their skill but also in their understanding of the opponents’ gameplay. They know their limitations on the players and constantly position and ensure playstyles that suit their strengths. This is why, the Astralis team, despite not being the strongest team in the scene is definitely the one with the best performances.

zonic & co. need to find a way to not fall under the pressure (StarLadder)

The Astralis roster consists of an all-Danish team, but the star on the team has to be Zonic, their coach. The former MTW Player has been able to mould astralis in his particular style and that has resulted in Astralis being miles ahead of the competition. While the like of Faze Clan and Na’Vi might theoretically be much stronger on paper, Astralis is able to mask their weaknesses and ensure that their opponents do not take advantage of the same. One characteristic playstyle for the team is their ability to push through one area of the map in pairs. This often gains them valuable information which is then used to act in other areas of the map. If the team pushes through A site on Overpass, and find no one or a minimal number of people, they know the positioning of the remaining members will be nearer to B bomb site. This allows them to reinforce the B Bombsite or play defensively according to their read of the game.

This is why the Astralis roster remains very strong and yet exceptionally skilled. Their individual aim is very high thanks tot he inclusion of Device, a top-tier player on the roster. Device with the AWP is well known to trace his own steps and work on eliminating any gaps in his playstyle. He does not believe himself to be the best AWper in the world, so he works to secure an advantage in the aim duels. This can be through smokes or just a very passive angle for Nicolai.

However, it has to be Glaive who has truly transformed this team. After Kjaerbye’s departure in January, Glaive was able to transform this team into its current position. We can clearly see the effect Glaive has as an In-Game Leader. He is able to put forth strong opinions and amazing mid-round calls. His quick assessment of the situation and his ability to read the opponents positioning correctly is not something that many can emulate.

Faze Clan

Faze Clan Roster:

  • Karrigan
  • Rain
  • Niko
  • Olofmeister
  • Guardian

The Faze Clan roster is comprised of the best players in Counter-Strike. The team’s performance in recent months has been somewhat lukewarm, but there is a tendency to start showing results of late. The team’s performance has slowly increased in performance especially with Guardian also starting to get the AWP kills he is most well-known for.

The Faze Clan roster contains several big names, however, it has not always been a merry journey for them. The team’s performance has slowly improved in results after a slow start to their journey in 2018. For the most part of 2018, the team’s performance has been lacklustre. They played with a stand-in [ or several ] for many months when Olofmeister was taking a break. However, when he did return for the FaceIT London Major, we had only olofmeister as the best performing player. The entire team seemed burnt out and they were unable to make the same impact as they did a few months earlier.

Guardian remains a player who is extremely strong on the AWP. Recently, we have seen Guardian pull out amazing shots with the AWP, often ones that remain the highlights of the game irrespective of the final results. If Guardian starts reaching his peak level, the player can truly become a menace for their opponents. He remains an extremely skilled player with lightning fast reflexes. The player’s ability to read the situation and be intelligent with the AWP performance

NiKo and co. want to avoid another situation similar to the aftermath of the ELEAGUE Major

In addition to Guardian, Olofmeister is also another potent player who has been extremely strong on the lurk role. The player’s performance remains one of the highlights for the team. The team’s performance in the past months has been successful [ of sorts ] only because of Olofmeister’s skill and presence. Faze Clan does not need Olofmeister to constantly put up the big numbers on the server. However, the Swedish player’s mere presence can evoke fear in the opponents.

Overall, Faze Clan will have a tough time against Astralis. Thankfully for them, the Faze Clan roster is still in the upper bracket, so even if they lose this match they will have more chances to qualify for the Playoffs.

Prediction:

Despite their recent loss of form, Astralis still remains a very strong team. They have a much better map pool and have a thorough understanding of Faze Clan. For the early part of 2018, the Faze Clan roster was the primary opponent for Glaive. As such he has a very good read on the opponents and positioning. The performance of Astralis in the past few tournaments has been largely underwhelming. This is mostly because teams have begun to spot chinks in their armour. The astralis roster is no longer unbeatable and that is partly due to the loss in form for the players.

Faze Clan will look towards ensuring that they can play a very strong, pug style play. They will need to ensure strong pushes on their T side to cripple the opponents’ performance. The Faze Clan has better aim, however, they also need a much better strategic gameplay against Astralis. We have seen Faze Clan put up big numbers before, but with Niko on their leadership role right now, we have seen the team falter when it comes to their tactics and strategy.

For now, we recommend a bet on Astralis for this match.

The FaceIT Major is currently underway with 16 of the top teams in attendance at the New legends stage. Eight of these teams are from the previous major, having secured their Legends status at that Major. The remaining eight fought their way through the New Challengers stage and ensured their place in the top 16. But in order to be truly immortalised in Counter-Strike, the teams need to ensure a place in the New Champions stage. They need to have a good performance in this Major in order to secure the Legends status for themselves.

The FaceIT Major Legends Stage will be held at the Twickenham stadium, the same venue as The New Challengers stage. This stage uses the Swiss format with each team having to win 3 matches in order to proceed to the next stage. At the same time, each team with 3 losses is out of the tournament.

We hope FaceIT has fixed the various PC issues that have plagued the CS:GO teams during the Challengers stage. Valve recently released a hotfix for the ‘footsteps audio’ issue where players would not be able to hear footsteps close to them.

Format

The New Legends Stage: September 12th – 16th, 2018

  • 16 Team Swiss System Format
  • Round 1 to 4 matches are Bo1
  • Round 5 matches are Bo3
  • The Buchholz system is used to seed matches from Rounds 3 to 5
  • Top 8 Teams proceed to The New Champions Stage
  • Bottom 8 Teams are eliminated

Observer:

Faze Clan

GuardiaN has performed when FaZe needed it most (StarLadder)

Faze Clan roster:

  • Karrigan
  • Niko
  • Rain
  • Olofmeister
  • Guardian

Faze Clan was the finalist at the previous Major, The Eleague Boston Major 2018. They lost to Cloud9 in a hotly contested series partly due to the pressure of playing in front of an American crowd. Post the Major, Faze continued to be the nemesis to Astralis, however, that did not last long. The performance of the team took a huge setback when they had to lose Olofmeister due to personal problems for the player

With Olofmeister’s absence, the team relied on several stand-ins during the course of the next few months. They got in players like Xizt, Cromen who helped the team lift several trophies or become extremely strong in their tournaments. The rest of the team did adjust to the new players on their roster, but overall Faze looked like the only team in CS: GO which could potentially challenge Astralis at their peak. But with Faze Clan now having Olofmeister back on their roster, they seem to have actually fallen off. The team’s performance has actually gotten worse, despite having Olofmeister play at his peak.

Olofmeister has put up strong performances after his return from the Major

Olofmeister has been able to play almost at his 2015 levels in this tournament. His individual performance looks better than the rest of the team’s performance. The remaining four members on the team, however, don’t seem to be playing anywhere near their normal levels. The levels of burnout on this roster is quite high and we can witness that in their scoreboard and the performance of star players like Guardian, Niko etc. There also seems to be some kind of friction within the team. This is why Niko said that he is calling for the team to post the team reaching 0-2 at the Major. So far, it seems to have worked out for the team as they are not a part of the New Champions stage.

Niko has assumed the role of an In-Game Leader post the 0-2 Legends stage

But Niko is not traditional In Game Leader. His presence on this team is mostly due to his ability to hit insane shots and his firepower. If he goes on the role of a shot-caller, it is bound to affect his personal performance. Either way, it seems that Faze Clan’s current roster might be in for some changes post the Major.

Faze also has several players such as Guardian and rain who can step up. But the players just don’t have the right temperament and the burnout is severely affecting their personal performances. So there is a lot riding on the shoulders of a few, which if not successful means that the team won’t be able to put up really good performances.

Astralis

Astralis roster:

  • Device
  • Dupreeh
  • Glaive
  • Xyp9x
  • Magisk

Astralis come into this tournament as the favourites. Without any competition from the remainder of the teams, they are definitely en route to win the FaceIT London Major. However, they have to maintain their momentum and this match against Faze clan will be one of their biggest tests. These two teams have been at loggerheads for most of the time between the previous Major and the current Major.

gla1ve & Astralis prevented Liquid from a strong day 1

Astralis rely on Glaive to help them get through the mid-game. Despite being an excellent shot-caller, Glaive is also a very talented individual player. He is constantly a threat to the opponents and it is not cheeky plays or SMG frags [ like Gob B]. Glaive is a legitimate threat to any bombsite that he is present and on a good day, he can have as good a performance as a Device or a Dupreeh. But it is his mid-round calls for which he is most well known. He has the ability to take quick decisions on the go and direct his team to the right bomb site in time.

Astralis team in action

Obviously, Device is the MVP on this roster. He has remained the best player on this roster for a long time. His ability to be consistently defensive on certain sections of the map and at the same time mix it up with aggressive plays elsewhere makes him a very unpredictable AWPer for the team. So Device’s ability to hold out certain zones on the map is exactly what makes him the right kind of player [ AWPer ] for Astralis.

The Astralis roster has Xyp9x, one of the most underrated heroes in the game. He always lurks under the radar but quickly dissects the enemy. His positioning on the map is exactly what makes him a constant threat in most of the games. His positioning compliments his playstyle which does not allow free movement on part of the enemy. Yet, he is not caught out and can dictate the pace of the game. This allows his teammates in Device and Dupreeh to burst onto the site and potentially get crucial frags. Xyp9x’s role on this team is a big understatement as he is crucial to the survival and the effectiveness of the team.

Prediction:

Both the teams are extremely strong and are finalist material. But it is the randomness of the draw and the lack of seeding which puts the two teams against each other. Astralis has shown a whole new level so far at the new legends stage. With the lack of good performances during the New Challengers stage, there were teams that were hopeful of an Astralis decline. But the time between the New Challengers stage and the New Legends stage definitely helped Astralis as they look extremely strong right now. Their focus on enabling their coordination and synergy on the team is exactly what the team relies on.

The performance of the team is scary right now and they don’t really look as if they have an opponent. Faze Clan was a decent matchup against Astralis till recently. But Faze Clan has not been able to put up consistently good performances in their matches. They didn’t have Olofmeister obviously because of his personal problems. And despite not having Olofmeister, Faze actually looked quite decent. But the bigger problem for the team remains that most of the players on their roster have been burnt out right now.

We have to recommend a bet on Astralis for this match. They are the better team and have been extremely consistent over time. With Faze Clan still figuring out their performance and the potential of a return to form for several of their members, Astralis seems to have it quite easy in this matchup.

The ESL Pro League ends it’s seventh season with the LAN finals at Dallas. The League has been going on for quite some time with various teams participating in the online section of the League. The ESL Pro League is one of the marquee events in Counter-Strike with several successful seasons.

The current LAN finals are extremely important as they probably put forth the best team forward. We have the London Major in a couple of months and the last few LAN tournaments prior to the Major will be crucial in determining the final standings in Counter-Strike. Faze Clan recently won their first LAN event when they won IEM Sydney 2018. Astralis has been at the very top of the scene on a consistent basis.

ESL Pro League started on the 15th of May 2018 and will end with the Grand finals at the Verizon Theatre on 20th of May. The 6300 seater theatre is the perfect culmination for the current season and the massive prize pool of $750,000.

Faze Clan can be considered to be the best team in the scene right now. Their win at IEM Sydney definitely makes a strong case for the international team. Surprisingly despite consistently appearing in the finals and semifinals of big-ticket tournaments, Faze only acquired their first win at IEM Sydney. It was on the back of some impressive performances by each player, including Xizt who is the stand-in for the team in place of Olofmeister. Astralis, on the other hand, are the only team with results to show for themselves at the highest stage. The Danish team has been able to best Faze multiple times in the past, but not so much at IEM Sydney 2018. They will be looking forth to seek revenge on the Faze Clan in this semifinal match.

Happy betting from EsportsBet, and let’s get into the esports betting analysis and prediction for this bookie match! Make sure to bet wisely.

Faze Clan

Faze Clan is the star-studded international team in Counter-Strike. When the team was first formed, there was a lot of apprehension about their performance. Each player was a superstar in his former team, but Counter-Strike is a team game. How the team would perform in a team game was an open question. Surprisingly Faze Clan did perform exceedingly well in the last few months of 2017. But the dip in their form culminated in the Eleague Boston Major where they lost the finals to Cloud9.

Since then there has been a change in the Faze Clan roster. Olofmeister is taking a break temporarily and Xizt ( formerly of NIP) will be standing in for the team. Xizt is already on very good terms with many of the players in the team. His ability to seamlessly integrate into the roster and play the role of Olofmeister with ease is what makes him a valuable asset to the team. We have already seen him in action at IEM Sydney where he was crucial to the Faze Clan’s chances of winning certain maps. Overpass is one such map which definitely comes to mind.

The Faze Clan roster is made up of several superstar players. Between Guardian, Karrigan, Niko, and Rain, this team is the right composition of an aggressive in-game leader as well as great firepower. Anyone of these players has the ability to carry the team on his back at any day. But Faze has been focussing on improving their strategies and their gameplay. The International roster is extremely powerful on maps such as Mirage, Overpass as well as Inferno. We have not seen enough of the team on Dust2 and it is still unsure how the team will behave on the Classic map.

Faze rely on different strategies which ensure that the team can play a very aggressive and high pitch game. They do not want to let their foot off the pedal and constantly keep the pressure on their opponents. Niko is one of the best players in the world and his ability to play at such a high level with such alarming consistency is what makes him the single biggest threat. Of course potential and actual performance do have a lot of differences and that is where Niko can fall off.

Astralis

Astralis is the Danish roster which has been near the top of the scene since almost 2015. The team which was formerly Dignitas was then under the TSM organization. They later decided to form their very own player-owned team. They received investment from RFRSH entertainment later which propelled them into their position as it is today.

The Danish team has a very different style of gameplay. They love their triple fakes as well the aggressive Terrorist side playstyle. Astralis has been able to surprise several opponents with their tactics and mind games. However, they are up against Karrigan, their former In Game Leader in this match.

The Astralis team has been on top of several tournaments in the past. Their roster includes Device, one of the best players on the most consistent basis in Counter-Strike. The team has been able to pull their weight together around Device.

Prediction

Astralis is a very strong team and can definitely hold their own against Faze. However, the team loses a big part of its confidence when it comes to playing around Faze Clan. The big rivalry in this match is obviously the Karrigan vs the rest of the Danish lineup. Karrigan always wants to prove himself against the Danish team and he is willing to take insane risks for the same. Most of the time these risks are very well executed thanks to the insanely high level of individual gameplay on Faze Clan.

Astralis, on the other hand seem to have a negative aspect on their gameplay when it comes to playing against Faze. They simply curl into a ball and are unable to play the best of their game against Faze Clan. In order for Astralis to win this match, they need Device to perform at his best. His individual level has been sort of plateauing of late and that can be a big problem.

The other X factor for Astralis will be Xizt. The Swedish guy has a lot of confidence when it comes to playing against the Danish lineup. He pulls off really strong individual plays against Astralis, which is possible due to his self-belief.

We recommend a Medium sized bet on Faze Clan for this match. Their confidence from winning IEM Sydney 2018 is at an all-time high and that is going to carry them to the title in this match.
