The Eleague CS: GO Invitational is the last Premier LAN event before the commencement of the CS: GO Major. However, it is not as stacked as some of the other Eleague tournaments. In fact, it has only four teams in attendance, and not all of them are Tier one teams.

The tournament features four teams namely BIG Gaming, Cloud9, Complexity Gaming and Faze Clan. These four teams are not representative of the best teams in the world. However, there is a sort of delicacy in the balance of the teams’ rankings. Faze Clan has recently introduced a new player and coach. This definitely makes them one of the unknown performers at this event. On the other hand, BIG Gaming is a team that is rarely seen at multiple LAN events. However, they always have a great grenade usage in the games that they are involved in. The team always receives praise from the casters and analysts for their strategies and their playstyle.

Complexity might not be one of the strongest teams, but it has a loyal fanbase. They have Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert as a stand-in for this event. It is a four-team event and there is technically a 25% chance for this team. The last and final team in this event is Cloud9. Cloud9 is a team that has made changes to its team recently and they are an unknown force in the tournament. Judging from their roster; they have the potential to defeat Faze Clan and take home the trophy.

The Eleague CS: GO Invitational will take place from the 25th to 27th of January, 2019. It takes place at the Eleague Arena in Atlanta. All the matches will be streamed live on Twitch.

Faze vs BIG

Faze Clan

Faze Clan Roster:

  • Håvard “rain” Nygaard.
  • Nikola “NiKo” Kovač.
  • Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács.
  • Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer Gustafsson.
  • Dauren “AdreN” Kystaubayev.

Faze Clan’s roster is down in the lower bracket after their loss to Cloud9 in their opening match. The Faze roster brought in AdreN to the team as a supportive player. The player’s addition to the team definitely adds a lot more structure to their roster. However, they still need to work on their strategy and the tactics on this star-studded team.

Niko is the In-Game Leader on this roster. Being the In-Game Leader and often the best player on the team is obviously a big bonus for the team. Often we see In-Game leaders fall off when it comes to their ability to play on an individual level. The same has not been the case for Niko, who has put up amazing performances on Faze Clan. He has a good understanding of how he wants to play the game. His vision on the team’s playstyle is obviously not well read by his teammates because they don’t see the same level of performances as the star-studded player. Niko was crazy in their match against Complexity. Niko had a KDA of +22 in just two maps. They were able to decimate Complexity 16:12 on Train and then 16:2 on Cache.

GuardiaN’s aggressive playstyle would be handy in keeping Smooya in Check.

Niko has great synergy with the other veterans on the Faze Clan roster. The team’s performance is helped immensely by Guardian, who is the primary AWPer for the team. Guardian’s performance is judged by his level of aggressiveness on the server. If Guardian is going for the aggressive peaks consantly trying to get picks on weird angles, it means he is extremely confident. It often results in a massive advantage for the team repeatedly. If Guardian is able to put up big numbers in this match against BIG Gaming; Faze Clan’s chances are definitely very high.

Olofmeister is the MVP on the team and has been the most consistent player on the team for most of 2018. He was absent for long periods of time due to personal reasons; however, as we move into 2019, there will be a lot of eyes on the player’s performance. He is the lurker on the team and he remains a huge impact in Faze CLan’s performance. Even as the lurker, he can open into the site and can take multiple kills. This leaves open the site for Faze Clan or they can choose to play mind-games and move to the next bomb-site. Olofmeister is a great player with the rifle as well as the AWP. Having made a name for himself in the past, Olofmeister strives to make himself great again on this International team. With Faze Clan, however, the results often depend on the other players on the roster.

Olofmeister is one of the most consistent players on Faze Clan in 2018.

AdreN’s addition to the team definitely is going to pose language barrier problems to the roster. The player is extremely skilled and has played the support role for a long time. He can ensure that his team is given the advantage while entering the bombsite. Throwing flashes, smokes and molotovs onto the bomb-site, AdreN can single-handedly clear the bombsite and put their opponents into uncomfortable positions.

Together, Faze Clan needs all its members to work together and seamlessly in order to ensure a victory in the tournament. The Eleague CS: GO Invitational is the last event before the start of the Major and Faze Clan will not have more time to prepare themselves.

BIG Gaming.

BIG Roster:

  • Fatih “gob b” Dayik.
  • Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz.
  • Tizian “tiziaN” Feldbusch.
  • Owen “smooya” Butterfield.
  • İsmailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş.

The German organisation is one of the most strategic teams in the world of CS: GO. With Gob B firmly establishing himself as a player and a coach who can out-think his opponents, BIG Gaming playstyle reflects his ideas. Last year we saw BIG Gaming have a huge impact on their grenade usage and their positioning on certain maps. However, the team is also one that is extremely inconsistent from one tournament to another. For most of their part, BIG Gaming depends on their primary AWPer Smooya to show up in a big way. If he has a great performance, BIG Gaming usually has a very dominant match and can even challenge the best teams in the world on a regular basis.

Go B is known for his tactics and strategical influence on the BIG Gaming playstyle.

However, BIG Gaming’s performance is reliant on a few players outperforming the rest. They recently added Xantares to their CS: GO team. The player has been a beast so far at the Eleague CS: GO Invitational. He is primarily a rifler and he can have a massive impact on the overall performance of the team. He can ensure that the team is able to get massive entry frags and often turn the outcome of the round in favour of BIG Gaming. So far at Eleague CS: GO Invitational, Xantares is probably the best and most consistent player on BIG Gaming. We don’t doubt that he will turn up in a big way in their match against Faze Clan.

However, we have to turn back to Smooya. The player is very inconsistent and he can turn from a beast in One Game to have no impact in the next match. BIG needs to provide Smooya the space to get his confidence back, make aggressive plays. Even if he unable to get frags, the confidence of making moves all around the map is important for BIG Gaming and Smooya in general.

Tizian has not had a great performance at the Eleague CSGO Invitaional 2019.

The other players on the team are doing decent. Tizian needs to step up and whilel we see his muscle memory put up strong frags; his impact on the team’s performance is definitely not as high. The team’s performance has seen them often overlooking Tizian’s positioning. However, as long as he maintains a decent score, BIG Gaming should be very comfortable in their results so far.

BIG Gaming’s perofrmance will depend on their innovative strategies and how to provide their players with the most advantage. The Grenade usage is just one example which ensures that the team can put up strong performances. They ensure that their opponents are always at a disadvantage before the actual round and team fight begins. This does not mean in any way that the BIG Gaming players are not upto taking on aim duels against their opponents. It is just a more efficient way of playing the game and ensuring adequate usage of their grenades and strategies.

Prediction:

The game will depend on how Guardian matches up against Smooya. Both the AWP players are very momentum based players and their performance directly reflects on their confidence. We have all seen Smooya put up really strong performances when he is hyped and is vocal on an individual level. However, the player is very inconsistent. Even so far in the tournament, we can clearly see the big impact that Smooya has on the performance of the team. In their first match against Complexity, Smooya had a KDA of +22. BIG won their initial match with ease. However, in the latest match against Cloud9, Smooya barely made an impact. He had fewer kills than Gob B which is truly surprising. But that is just how the player performs. He might be God tier on one day, but he might not put up any good performances the next day. In fact, Smooya was not even using the AWP in their match against Cloud9. He was preferring to buy the AUG and play with the AUG during their winners’ match.

Tabsen and BIG are the veterans on the roster.

Ofcourse, statistically Faze Clan seems to be the better team. They are a team which has recently made a few changes, but realistically Niko has been calling for the team since the last Major. The players are used to his shot-calling and they will continue to do so. With YNK joining the team, it does present a new angle to the team’s performance. Recently Flusha mentioned that Faze Clan looked very incoherent and were unsure of what their play was. The Faze players are all over the map and the lack of a structured playstyle clearly is visible in their results. Can Faze improve on this at Eleague CS: GO Invitational? Probably not. However, their individual skill level is definitely higher than that of BIG Gaming, even on their average days.

As such, we recommend a low bet on Faze Clan. They are not the most confident team right now and lack of form definitely hurts. But with Smooya’s inconsistency and the German team’s over-reliance on Xantares to carry them through the tournament; any bet on BIG will be extremely risky for BIG Gaming.
