While Astralis is considered to be the strongest team in the tournament, we have not seen them perform at the same level of dominance since the FaceIT London Major 2018.

IEM Chicago is down to the last two teams and Team Liquid and Astralis will come together in the final matchup. It will be interesting to see how the two teams place against each other. If Team Liquid manages to defeat Astralis, it will definitely call for a new world order. For Astralis, it is a time for them to continue their dominant performance, however, they are not looking too hot right now.

Astralis vs Team Liquid

The two teams will face off once again in what is shaping up to become a rivalry in Counter-Strike Global Offensive. Astralis has been near the top of the scene for a long time. However, post their FaceIT London Major and Blast Pro Series 2018 the Danish squad does not look so strong anymore.

Astralis

Astralis Roster:

  • Glaive
  • Device
  • Dupreeh
  • Xyp9x
  • MagisK

The Danish squad has never been the best when it comes to sheer firepower. However, what they lacked in their firepower and skill; they more than made up for in terms of their synergy and coordination. The playstyle for the team emphasises on ensuring that they cover their mistakes and their weaknesses. The Astralis roster has been able to ensure that their weaknesses are not taken advantage of, at least not without Astralis’ knowledge.

Device has been near the top of the scene for a very long time. He has been able to guide the team into victory on multiple occasions because of his high skill talent. However, he is one of the first players to study his own heatmap in an attempt to stop others from countering his playstyle. Nicolai has become a strong player on a regular basis with his performance. He can emphasise the team’s strengths by shutting down entire regions on his own. The player’s ability to shut down certain sections of the map is what makes him a strong player for the team. In addition to this, he has excellent chemistry with Xyp9x and Dupreeh. The trio has been together for a long time, from their Dignitas days.

Dupreeh is the other player on the team who is constantly making the flashy plays and allowing Astralis to take the lead when it comes to the early part of the rounds. After getting the initial advantage, Astralis players often fall back and allow the opponents to make the mistakes. The Astralis roster has orchestrated this kind of play to perfection over the past few months. They have dominated their opponents with their systemic playstyle and precision.

zonic & co. need to find a way to not fall under the pressure (StarLadder)

For this kind of play, the credit has to go to Zonic. The Astralis Coach has been a former player. He initiated a similar kind of play with his former team mTw. The team made sure that they are able to provide the necessary backup required by the team. As we see the performance of Astralis in the past few weeks, however, we see that they are not the unbeatable team that they were before. Right now, we have seen Faze Clan and almost Fnatic defeat Team Astralis at IEM Chicago 2018. Team Liquid definitely has a much better chance for this match.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid Roster:

  • Twistzz
  • NAF
  • Nitro
  • Elige
  • TACO

Team Liquid decimated Faze Clan in the semifinals. The aim of Twistzz and Elige coming together displayed just how strong Team Liquid can be a very strong team when all their pieces are working in tandem. Against Faze Clan, that is exactly what happened. That being said, Faze did make multiple mistakes like pushing in alone when they have an advantage. They were literally giving Team Liquid the chance to neutralize and later win the maps with relative ease. After the drudging of the second map, Faze Clan looked down and out. They were simply unable to make an impact on the outcome of the match.

Twistzz remains the most talented player on the team and it is not without reason. The player has been exceptional in his aim and he has been able to hit insane shots from seemingly impossible situations. The player’s ability to move into position fast and then gain an advantage over his opponents is unmatched. The team’s performance depends heavily on Twistzz and Elige’s performance and if either of them put up good performances, then we can see the entire team thrive.

However, as we look forth to the Grand finals, Twistzz alone cannot ensure the best performance for the team. We will see Elige come alive as he has throughout the tournament with his excellent performance. The team\s performance throughout IEM Chicago 2018 has been heavily dependent on Elige and how he manages his role at the forefront of the attack. He has been able to ensure that the team constantly gets an advantage going into the round by getting the opening kill. Elige is crucial to Team Liquid’s success over the past few months and has slowly developed into the most important player for the team. He is constantly at the top of the scoreboard for Team Liquid.

Prediction :

On paper, Astralis does seem to be the stronger team. They have the experience, the momentum as well as the players needed to win this match. However, that being said, we are also witnessing Astralis is not a team that is as dominant as before. The team’s performance through the last few weeks has been very underwhelming. They are losing to many of the top teams, they are also not able to finish their matches against lower ranked teams.

The drubbing that they got from Fnatic definitely did not make them a favourite to win this tournament. The team’s performance in the latter half of the match was great and inspirational, but it also masks the lack of performance by the team during the normal match. They were simply at their wits end with regards to how the team can possibly make an impact on their T side. Fnatic had a very dominant performance, and their match loss was only due to their inability to close out the match.

Team Liquid, on the other hand, seems to be on an upward trajectory. Their performance through the tournament has been very strong and they have both Twistzz and Elige performing at their peak level. The North American Squad has been able to dominate teams like Faze Clan and the manner in which they did so definitely inspires confidence in the team. Team Liquid’s performance through the tournament sees them emerge as the favourite in this tournament for the Grand finals.

We recommend a medium sized bet on Team Liquid for this match.

The IEM Chicago tournament will be crucial for the teams aiming to prove themselves on the big stage. While the top teams are obviously competing for the title, many smaller teams are also aiming to prove themselves amongst the bigger fish.

The tournament will feature a double elimination format where every team will get a chance to prove themselves. The format allows teams to make mistakes and yet have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs. So far in the tournament, teams like North, MiBr and Natus Vincere have been eliminated from the tournament.

Mousesports vs BIG Gaming

Mousesports

Mousesports Roster:

  • Styko
  • ChrisJ
  • Sunny
  • Oskar
  • Ropz

Mousesports remains a team that is slowly rebuilding this team. They did make the mistake of adding Snax to the roster despite having a relatively successful team with Styko. The team with Styko had achieved a lot of success and were constantly playing in the playoffs and sometimes in the Grand finals of tournaments. On paper, Snax is a much better player than Styko, however, the reality was quite different than expected. Snax did not find a proper fit with the team and he is now a free agent.

The Mousesports team is now a part of its old roster and it is already looking quite good. The team’s preparation has been much better with results already showing on the International stage. However, the hiatus from the team meant that the team is not yet fully in synergy despite Styko being on their team right now.

ChrisJ is the glue that holds this team together. Formerly the star on the roster, ChrisJ has allowed other players to take the spotlight on the team. His ability to take the back seat allowing for new, often younger players take the lead is truly inspirational. ChrisJ is also performing really well with the AWP. He is extremely potent with the AWP and can often play aggressively as well.

In addition to the Captain, this team relies on Sunny to put up strong performances. He might not have the most amenable attitude when it comes to being on a team, however, there is no doubt about his talent. His positioning and the mental fortitude while making strong plays is unparalleled. The team relies on Sunny to consistently put up decent numbers and he does not disappoint. Sunny’s performance definitely is one that does remain extremely consistent and then he has peaked in his performance which truly makes him a strong player.

Overall Mousepsorts also has the likes of Ropz and Oskar who put up the big numbers on a repetitive nature. The team is extremely fortunate to have such players of talent and little to no ego. As such they are able to adjust their gameplay according to what they want. Mousesports’ current set of results, however, is not their best and they definitely are looking forth to improving their results. IEM Chicago will be a good test for the team as it looks to rebuild their past success.

BIG Gaming.

BIG Gaming Roster:

  • Tabsen
  • Tizian
  • Smooya
  • Gob B
  • Nex

BIG Gaming is a very tactical team under the leadership of Gob B. The man himself is a legend in Counter-Strike and is considered an inspiration for new IGLs. He understands his team better than anyone else and customises the strategies depending on the team’s playstyle. This is why BIG Gaming looks so comfortable in their gameplay right now.

The team has made a name for itself with the efficient use of grenades. This ensures that they soften up the enemy or puts them out of position much before the team fights actually start. As such, it becomes much easier for the team to potentially win the round. However, no amount of tactics or strategy would help them reach their current level in Counter-Strike if they did not have the firepower to go along with it. The likes of Smooya, Tizian and Tabsen have been able to enable the team to make strong plays in their recent tournaments.

BIG surprised at WESG, with tabseN leading the way (BIG)

The individual level of Smooya remains a very strong point for BIG Gaming. But as we see with several talented players, Smooya is not always able to maintain the same level of consistency. Being a very momentum based player, it is not rare to see Smooya severely underperforming on the team. His ability to pull off amazing shots is often directly related to the prior performance of the player. It is not rare to see Smooya shouting on stage and being extremely excited about the team’s prospects.

However, BIG also rely on Tizian and Tabsen to keep performing at their level. It is not rare to see Tabsen put up as the best player on the server. However, he does not really have ‘bad’ days as he is always very consistent with the game. The players’ synergy is what determines how strong their store is. There have been reports of Smooya possibly leaving BIG Gaming for another organisation. However, until now, they have been woefully inaccurate and Smooya has remained on this team for now. This also means that the team believes in its ability to put up challenges to the best teams in the world. IT is not without reason as we see BIG Gaming constantly putting up good numbers against the top teams. Their win against Na’Vi definitely serves as an inspiration to the other players on the team. It will also make Smooya full of confidence which is what will make this team a strong force at IEM Chicago.

Prediction :

BIG Gaming will play against Mousesports for the lower bracket round 2 matches. The two teams are extremely even, especially as saw BIG Gaming pull off that win against Natus Vincere. The German team definitely has proven itself on the big stage repeatedly. The team’s performance in this tournament will be very crucial to determine their place on the International stage.

Their opponents, Mousepsorts, on the other hand, need this tournament to start producing results. The team is definitely looking much better than their time with Snax. Currently, Mouseposrts does have a decent chance but they have not had the most time to practice together with Styko. AS such as we recommend a low bet on BIG Gaming.

Introduction

IEM Shanghai 2018 was postponed well into the player break due to certain logistical hurdles. This is one of the first stops in China for the Event organizer. They are looking to tap into the Asian market, especially with their recent appointment of new personnel heading the division. IEM Shanghai features a prize pool of $250,000 and will see eight teams compete at the tournament.

This tournament is aptly called as the race amongst Tier 2 teams, there are so many teams which are striving to break into the top scene. Teams like NRG, Grayhound, Tyloo and Virtus pro are all capable teams. We have seen them cause upsets in the past and create chaos amongst the rankings. But in this tournament, amongst equals, it is going to be a true test for several of these teams.

Gambit Gaming

Gambit Gaming Roster:

  • Dosia
  • Adren
  • Mou
  • Hobbit
  • Mir

Gambit Gaming is the winners of PGL Krakow 2017. The former Major winners were struck with tragedy soon after as Zeus decided to leave the team. The team has not really been strong since then, despite having talented players were able to lead them to victory in the past.

The current Gambit Gaming roster has many components of the former roster, but they have not had anywhere close to the result that the former roster achieved. Dosia, Adren, Mou and Hobbit are household names in the CIS region. Dosia has definitely seen a huge drop in form and is no longer the same brazen attitude player that we are used to seeing in the server. This is also due to his lack of confidence as a player on an individual level.

While this can be said about the remainder of the players as well, the general consensus is that the team lacks the confidence required. This stems from repeated failures in the recent past. Gambit Gamign recently added B1ade as their coach. The coach has helped several superstar players in the recent past and that is something that is going to work for them. However, he just recently joined the team and we don’t expect any big changes from the coach yet. Gambit can improve, but it’s not in this tournament.

Grayhound Gaming

Grayhound Gaming roster:

  • Erkast
  • Dexter
  • Dickstacy
  • Maita
  • Gratisfactoin

The Grayhound roster first appeared on the International scene a few tournaments ago. The team rose to prominence after a spirited performance during IEM sydney. The team is not really the best team in Australia, but they are definitely quite handy. Now, on Paper Grayhound is probably the weaker of the two teams. We have seen Grayhound mostly play in their local scene against the Australian teams.

The star on the team is obviously Gratisfaction. The player is lethal with his AWP often turning the outcome of games on his own. Gratisfaction’s ability to control certain sections of the map ensures that Grayhound have decent spread on the rest of the part. While Grayhound plays extremely aggressive on their CT side, they tend to gather information first on their Terrorist side. Grayhound, is a team that has a much even spread of kills through the leaderboard. While Gratisfaction is often the player at the top, his performance on the team is not something that outclasses the remainder.

Following up close to Gratisfaction and probably the most popular on the team is DickStacy. The player who became famous during IEM Sydney thanks to his unique username is also a force to reckon with in the server. DickStacy has a very aggressive, often risky style of play. Against weaker teams or teams of the same skill level, this works wonders; but when Grayhound are up against stronger teams, this is often their undoing.

The Grayhound roster is not really a world class roster, but they are improving with each passing tournament. They have been able to make a name for themselves partly due to their perofrmance and partly due to their attitude and charisma.

Prediction:

We have to recommend a bet on Grayhound for this match. While Gambit Gaming does seem strong on paper, they don’t really have the necessary confidence to warrant a bet on them. The odds for a Grayhound bet are also much better and that should be a relatively low risk bet for us.
