The Counter-Strike scene moves to Chicago for the next few days as we head to IEM Chicago 2018. The tournament will see several teams from all across the globe participating in the event. There are a total of 16 teams at the event competing for a prize pool of $250,000. The event takes place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The event started on the 6th of November and will continue till the 11th. While Astralis is considered to be the strongest team in the tournament, we have not seen them perform at the same level of dominance since the FaceIT London Major 2018.

The IEM Chicago tournament will be crucial for the teams aiming to prove themselves on the big stage. While the top teams are obviously competing for the title, many smaller teams are also aiming to prove themselves amongst the bigger fish.

The tournament will feature a double elimination format where every team will get a chance to prove themselves. The format allows teams to make mistakes and yet have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs. So far in the tournament, teams like North, MiBr and Natus Vincere have been eliminated from the tournament.

Team Liquid vs LDLC

Team Liquid

Team Liquid Roster:

  • NAF
  • Elige
  • Twistzz
  • TACO
  • Nitro

Team Liquid is the best hope for North America at IEM Chicago 2018. The team’s performance in this event will be crucial to the hopes for North America in this NA event. However, Team Liquid has not looked at their best during this event. Despite having some really strong individual players, Team Liquid has a good mixture of individuals as well as the strategic advantage of having players like nitro on the team.

The biggest advantage for Team Liquid remains their firepower. Elige has a direct relation to the team’s overall performance at this tournament. When Elige underperforms, the rest of Team Liquid does not look dominant in their games. Elige’s performance is crucial to provide Team Liquid with the frags and the necessary early round advantage. He is most well-known for his T side performance where he can hit insane headshots with the AK. His one-taps can mean the difference between the round win or a round loss.

Accompanying him on this roster is Twistzz, supposedly the best player in the North American region. The player has such a huge skill ceiling that it is impossible to judge his best performance at any given point of time. His quick reflexes have provided him with seemingly impossible kills. He can hold down certain sections of the map, especially CT sided maps on his own. His ability to do so is truly inspirational and can result in easy round wins for the team. It is not rare to see Twistzz top the scoreboard regularly.

The team is led by Nitro and behind the team by Zeus. The duo presents the necessary tactics for the roster. So far in the recent months, they look like a formidable team on certain maps, but their smaller map pool might not be the best right now. The team’s performance through this particular tournament has been largely underwhelming. They lost to Fnatic in the Upper Bracket finals. The team did not look extremely strong in their match against Fnatic as they did not have Elige performing to the best of his ability. The team’s performance definitely suffered in that match.

Regardless of their performance in this tournament, Team Liquid still remains the favourite in this matchup. They are definitely the stronger lineup amongst the two and we will see how well Team Liquid plays in this match.

LDLC

LDLC Roster:

  • To1nou
  • Alex
  • logaN
  • AmaNek
  • Devoduvek

The French roster has been the surprise package at this tournament. No one expected them to reach so far into the tournament. Them reaching the playoffs easily makes them as the best French CS: GO team right now. The team is made up of several Tier 2 French players who have struggled through the French CS: GO politics. The reluctance of the French teams to make a big impact on the international stage by adding new talented individuals from the Tier 2 / 3 scene is very telling. As a result, they are ready to suffer losses consistently and yet they will not change their roster by a big amount.

LDLC is a relatively new team when compared to the likes of Team Liquid. The players are somewhat less experienced compared to Team Liquid. Regardless this team has found its groove with the current bunch of players. They have excellent coordination with each other which allows them to make sometimes strange plays as well.

Amanek and Devoduvek have proven themselves on this roster for a long time. Their positioning with the rifle is perfect and they play off each other. This allows them to secure an advantage against better-placed opponents as well. This synergy is due to years of playing together and having excellent communication. This is exactly what the top tier French teams often need, but they don’t have for a multitude of reasons.

Prediction :

Despite the shortcomings for Team liquid at the IEM Chicago 2018, they are still the much better team in this match. Their experience, their talent and their ability to hit insane headshots is just astonishingly high compared to that of Team LDLC> For LDLC, reaching the quarterfinals is a huge achievement. We don’t expect LDLC to proceed further than this and this should be a very easy win for Team Liquid. We recommend a huge bet on Team Liquid for this match.
